The surgery last week didn't go as expected.  The doctor didn't find any stone, which either means I am insane (possible) or I passed it without realizing it (unlikely).  I guess it's back to the proverbial drawing board.

My birthday is next week.  It's perfect timing that Apple announced the new iPods yesterday.  I just ordered one of the new 20GB models.  According to the Apple store, it should be here by the end of the week.  I'll post my experiences later.

It's a hell of a lot easier to code in VB.NET on a Tablet PC.

Someday I am told that link will actually point to something useful.

I admit it.  I'm addicted.  I was a fan of Stargate SG1 during it's first season on Showtime, but lost track of the show when it moved to SCI-FI.  I have recently rediscovered it and am working through all the episodes.  Currently, I am mid-way through season 3.  My favorite SG1 site right now is gateworld.  It has reviews and ratings of all the episodes.  Any SG1 fan should check it out.

So far I'm very impressed with the improvments in the Whidby debugger.  I've only played with it for 20 minutes or so, but I am completely stunned with how good it seems to be.  The most noticible change is the pop-up that comes up when I hover over a variable while broken in the debugger.  The popup shows me the type of the variable and allows me to drill down into all the fields and subfields.  It's like an instant quick watch.  I'm blown away.

Oh, one other thing.... Connecting to the SQLExpress instance from a C# project was a no-brainer.  I think I will dig in and figure out what the deployment story for SQLExpress will be.

I have my first complaint about DasBlog.  In my previous post, I linked to a page in the MSDN Product Feedback center.  For some reason, when I click on the URL that DasBog creates to handle the click-through tracking, the target URL gets hosed and I get an error on the target MSDN site.  The un-decorated URL that appears in the RSS entry does not have this problem.  I'll have to dig into the code and figure out what exactly is going on before submitting a bug-report to the DasBlog workspace.

In the mean time, read my blog in an aggregator and you won't have this problem :)

I finally got around to experimenting with SQL Server Express 2005 today.  I’m very glad I found this tip via Sam. It saved me hours of hair pulling.  Once I was able to connect to the server instance with the Server Explorer in the Whidby Beta, I was able to get a database created without any fuss.  I plan on spending the rest of the day digging deeper into the bits, but so far, it looks like it’s just going to work.  I’ll follow up later with the results.

After spending much of the day being poked and prodded by various doctors and other assorted health care professionals, it looks like I will be spending next Friday in surgery.  I've had more than a dozen kidney stones during the past eleven years or so and most of them have passed without incident.  This time is different.  The little bugger is stuck and needs some external assistance.  So, in a little over a week I will be going under.  Fun times.
